Long Term Care Insurance Advice

By Martin Stoleman

Whether you think about your car, your favorite sweater, or your own health, wouldn't you agree that you should care for each of those things with long term care? In my own life, much damage has been done by trying to take care of things based on what they needed in the moment. It was all about the quick fixes that kept my car running for another day or my computer running long enough to write another article.

If you are a parent, think about your children. If your kids are anything like mine, then they often come to me with requests for things that they want right now. Sometimes they want a cookie before dinner, other times they want to spend all of their allowance on the latest doll or racecar. I have learned that in many situations, it is wiser to think about what is best for my children's long term care rather than meeting their immediate need. All children love to eat dessert before dinner, but is that really what is best for their health and long term care? Probably not. And while it may be fun to spend all of their allowance on the latest toy, by allowing your children to spend money rashly what are you teaching them about money for their long term care?

Take your health for example. Unless you have taken the time to establish consistent patterns of eating healthy and exercising often, your body will rarely if ever crave these things. It is easy to eat that extra snack when you feel like it or to enjoy a lazy afternoon rather than go for a healthy run. But are these choices smart for the long term care of your body? Of course not. We all know that we cannot follow what we feel when it comes to getting healthy and staying that way. Sometimes we have to go directly against how we feel in order to make smart choices for the long term care and health of our bodies.

I have noticed the tendency to make easy fixes in so many areas of my life. When something around the house is broken, it is so easy for me to tape it up or fix it temporarily just to get by rather than taking a bit longer and caring about the long term care of that item. Because time is such a premium it is often hard to spend more time for the long term care of the things I own.

I have been challenged in the past few months to take a long, hard look at my life. I have found too many areas where I allow instant gratification and whatever is easiest to rule the things I choose rather than choosing based on what is best for the long term care of myself, others, and the things I own. I challenge you to look at your life as well. Look for ways to care about more than just this moment.
